Eastern Shore Social Call: Issue 01

A dreary weekend forecast calls for some unique rainy day fun

Hey there, I’m Meag. Marketer by day and local business and happenings enthusiast by night. Join me on my journey to find cool things to do and places to go on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

At risk of losing all of my subscribers before we even get off the ground, I’m going to begin this series by talking about the weather AND how quickly time is flying.

I know, I hate me, too. But seriously, how is it July already? I blame my children.

Which leads me to my next cliche topic coverage - the weather! You know what’s worse than living by the beach and rain being in the forecast all weekend? Not having anything fun to do when you’re out of movies and your butt is partly asleep from lounging so much.

Nothing wrong with taking it easy, but when you’re ready to venture out into the world…

Here’s 8 Things to do on the Eastern Shore of Maryland on a Rainy Day

1. Find a New Coffee Shop

During the week, it’s so easy to go to your tried and true coffee shop. You know them. You love them. You would never dream of going elsewhere. Step outside your Rise Up (4.4★) comfort-zone and give the new 7 Brew (4.8★)in Salisbury a shot.

2. Buy a New Book from a Locally Owned Bookstore

If you're up for a short drive, browse Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach (4.6★). It's one of the region's best independent bookstores and makes for a perfect rainy-day destination.

3. Book Yourself a Massage 💆‍♀️

Rainy days are made for slowing down. Treat yourself to a massage at About Faces (4.8★) in Salisbury - bonus points if you ask for Anita and opt for a swedish/deep tissue combo with the detox and glow treatment. You won’t be disappointed.

4. Go on a Thrift or Antique Treasure Hunt 🏺

Spend an afternoon browsing Goose On the Roof Antiques (5.0★). Don’t forget, it’s never too early to plan for brithday or holiday gifts.

5. Visit a Museum or Local Art Space 🎨

Get lost at the Ocean Gallery (4.5★) on the boardwalk or check out rotating exhibits and local artists at Salisbury Art Space (4.8★).

6. Take Yourself on a Dessert Tour 🥧

Skip the chain restaurants and stop by The Ugly Pie (4.6★) on Saturdays for a slice of homemade pie or quiche. Or snag some southern comfort and grab an apple ugly from Orange Blossom in Berlin.

7. Shop a Local Boutique 🛍️

Shop independent designer created unique home decor, jewelry, fashion, and more at Bella Luna boutique in Rehoboth and pick up some early holiday gifts.

8. Play Tourist in Your Own Town 📍

Pick a business you've never visited from Google Maps or Yelp and make it your mission for the day. Ask the owner or staff for another favorite local spot to visit next—you'll almost always leave with a recommendation you wouldn't have found online.

But Meag! What about the arcades? What about catching a movie? Well of course you can do those things too, skeeball also cures rainy day blues, but aren’t they kind of a given? 😉

Stay dry friends, Meag
